Description of School and Classes

Each grade level will learn 30 - 40 age appropriate songs in two semesters.  I will present musical elements in a sequential order and help students produce beautiful tone quality.

Little Singers - 4 year olds

Pre-school children are beginning to be aware of music, movements and interacting with others.  Basic social and musical skills are introduced through singing games, children’s songs and rhymes. The typical 4 year old says, “I want to do it by myself.”

Dynamic Do - Kindergarten

Kindergartners are at a “dynamic” age for learning short, playful songs.  Basic musical elements like tone matching, hearing different pitches and sounds will be introduced.  They will practice following simple directions and taking turns.  They will have fun singing and won’t realize they are learning.

Rockin’ Re - Level 1

First graders are at an active, “rockin” age perfect for learning to read basic musical elements.  The songs they will be singing involve a lot of physical coordination skills such as skipping, hopping, tapping, hand clapping with a partner and walking the beat and clapping the rhythm while singing in tune.

Magical Me - Level 2

Second graders are at a “magical” age where creativity is developed through the learning of carefully selected singing games and folk songs from our American heritage.  Students will learn to read songs with increased complexity of rhythmic and melodic elements.  The tuning fork will be used for proper tone matching.

Fantastic Fa - Level 3

Third graders are at a “fantastic” age for learning to play the recorder.  This simple instrument allows students to practice songs while internalizing musical elements.  Students will read and sing songs representing the diverse makeup of our multi-cultural American heritage.

Superb So Level 4

Fourth graders are at a “superb” age for learning how to sing solos and in small groups to foster self-confidence in singing.  These students will learn a breadth of songs that could be described as an American musical social studies class.

Lucky La - Level 5

Fifth graders are at a “lucky” age where they will identify scales, modes and more complex rhythms.  Students will learn how to properly evaluate solo and group performances.  They will read and sing songs which reflect the growth and expansion of our American culture.  Fifth graders will play and read advanced songs on the recorder.

Terrific Ti - Level 6

Sixth graders are at a “terrific” age for learning musical elements from other cultures and the master composers from foreign countries.  Students will quickly learn and will be able to sing songs and recognize musical idioms of other cultures.
